February 9, 2017

On February 9, Saskatoon Wildlife Federation held their annual awards banquet to celebrate the achievements of our members throughout the year. Awards Chair Gordon Kincade hosted the evening, assisted by Howard Closson and Blair Torgerson.

Junior members may enter any game bird, animal or fish (no minimum) or wildlife photography to be considered for awards. Junior Awards were presented to:

All Juniors who entered received $25 Gift Certificates sponsored by North Pro Sports and were entered in a draw for a $200 Gift Certificate at North Pro Sports, sponsored by Gordon Kincade.

Firearms Safety & Hunter Safety Instructors are important volunteers in our club. They share their expertise with young and older students who want to do hunting and shooting sports. A number of the instructors also volunteer at the Sports & Leisure Show, and are great ambassadors for our club. Certificate seals were presented by Jolene Hofstra, (Instructor Coordinator) to:

(posthumously to Bruce Sorenson)

Regular awards were presented in the following categories:

Mule Deer

Whitetail Deer

Wayne was also recognized for placing 2nd overall in the provincial competition in 2015.

Each year a member is recognized as Top Salesperson for memberships. Representing the Saskatoon Straight Shooters, Michael Kincade received this award.
Co-Chairs of the Sports and Leisure Show received seals for existing certificates - Howard Closson & Brad Ashdown, and a new certificate - Heather Graham-Nakaska.

Saskatoon Rifle & Revolver Club presented awards for Outstanding Member to Michael Banman and to Peter Farquharson.
Most Competitive awards were given to Jeremy Ruddick (presented by Eric Mooney), and to Adam Glatt (presented by Trent Booker).

Saskatoon Wildlife Federation Outstanding Member award was presented by Greg Jaques to Michael Kincade. Greg cited Michael's dedication to the Straight Shooters, and promoting the sport of archery in our community, as well as serving as a Vice-President on our Board of Directors.

Awards Chair Gordon Kincade prefaced the presentation of the Lifetime Memberships by stating that his last communication from the late Lifetime Member Bruce Sorenson was to nominate two of this year's recipients.
President Bob Freberg introduced Peter Farquharson as the first new Lifetime Member. Peter's leadership in SRRC events over the years was noted, and in particular his dedication and commitment to the new outdoor range project.
Judy Closson described the many hours of work that Vice- President Howard Closson devotes to our club, including chairing the Sports & Leisure Show, serving on the Board, working behind the scenes on club projects, and more recently preparing meals for our club functions and banquets.

Vice-President Al Leggott summarized the years of club involvement leading up to Robert Freberg becoming club president and leading us into an exciting time of growth for the Saskatoon Wildlife Federation. Bob's enthusiasm for the shooting sports and all aspects of the club has been a driving force in the success of recent club ventures.

Congratulations to all award recipients, and particularly to our new Lifetime Members who continue to share their time and talents with our club.
